Suspect in the EPT Berlin Robbery Gives in
19.03.2010 -Almost two weeks ago around $322,000 were stolen from the Berlin venue of the European Poker Tour. After noticing the unarmed security guards, the thieves made their move and managed to enter and go for the prize money at the Hyatt.
This Monday, Associated Press reported, a man surrendered to the police and admitted he was part of the criminal group. Details are still scarce, but the 21-year-old German was able to give out the names of his accomplices – Ahmad el-Awayti, Jihad Chetwie from Germany, and Mustafa Ucarkus from Turkey. Based on this information, the three men have been associated with previous crimes and their photos have been released.
According to AP, the car used in the robbery has been recovered. A prosecutor on the case, Frank Heller, said "The money was divided up immediately after the crime." The suspect in custody has agreed to pay back his share of the money, however, it is currently with a "third party."
