Online Poker Reduces Stress Dramatically
08.03.2010 -Playing poker dramatically reduces stress. This is the result of a recent study by a group of Canadian scientist who research the effects of playing poker on people’s overall stress levels.
This might come as a surprise to those of us who have ever made their way through a number of buy-ins on a relatively low stake cash game, however, research findings show that a couple of hours of online poker every day can greatly improve your health.
Scientists claim that whenever you play poker this has an impact on the levels of cortisol in your brain. This hormone causes stress and anxiety which can be reduces by playing online poker.
Apart from well known stress relief techniques such as meditation, the recent poker study shows that regular online players have 17% lower cortisol levels compared to non-poker players.
Results are not fully conclusive as to the reasons why playing online poker has such a significant effect on cortisol in the brain, but it is largely agreed that the concentration required when playing poker makes you forget the little everyday troubles.
Nevertheless, pushing little things off the mind helps savvy players concentrate on what really matters in a poker game – analyzing your opponents and making sure your bankroll is expanding.
